Conservation Organizations

Trout Unlimited
The Brodhead Chapter’s parent is a national organization with more than 150,000 members organized into about 400 chapters from Maine to Montana to Alaska. This dedicated grassroots army is matched by a respected staff of lawyers, policy experts and scientists, who work out of more than 30 offices nationwide. These conservation professionals ensure that TU is at the forefront of fisheries restoration work at the local, state and national levels.

Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited
The PA Council or Trout Unlimited dates back to 1963 when Charlie Fox, acting as president of the Pennsylvania Council, appointed Keith Schuyler as vice president to “get together a committee to study what recommendations for Pennsylvania trout fishing should be made by Trout Unlimited for policy discussion with the Pennsylvania Fish Commission.” There were just 3 local chapters established at that time…in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Philadelphia.

Brodhead Watershed Association
The Brodhead Watershed Association (BWA) is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to protecting and improving water resources and the environment in the Brodhead and Cherry creek watershed.

Pocono Heritage Land Trust
The Pocono Heritage Land Trust (PHLT) is a locally based conservation group dedicated to protecting important lands and waters, open space, agricultural landscapes and the natural heritage of the Pocono Mountains region.

Coldwater Heritage Partnership
The Coldwater Heritage Partnership (CHP) is a collaborative effort between the PA Fish & Boat Commission, PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds and Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited.

Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture
A diverse group of partners, including state fish and wildlife agencies, federal resource agencies, Indian tribes, academic institutions and non-governmental organizations are working to conserve Eastern Brook Trout and their habitats. Established as the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture (EBTJV), this Fish Habitat Partnership has already produced a range-wide population assessment of wild Brook Trout; completed extensive work that identifies key threats to wild Brook Trout and their habitats; and developed conservation strategies to protect, enhance and restore wild Brook Trout.

Sportsmen Alliance for Marcellus Conservation
The Sportsmen Alliance for Marcellus Conservation (Sportsmen Alliance) is an affiliation of sportsmen and women working together to identify and mitigate the impacts of Marcellus Shale gas drilling on hunting, fishing, trapping and other outdoor sporting activities.

Online Resources

Scott Cesari Beginner Fly-Tying Class
This section of Scott’s website was developed as a supplemental resource to the beginner fly tying class he teaches for the Brodhead Chapter of Trout Unlimited.  It is structured, however, to allow anyone completing the segments to be able to learn fly tying, whether the class was physically attended or not.

Trout in the Classroom
Pennsylvania Trout In the Classroom (TIC) is an interdisciplinary program in which students in grades 3-12 learn about coldwater conservation while raising brook trout from eggs to fingerlings in a classroom aquarium.
