Run, Dash or Walk for the Earth!
BWA Seeks Runners for the Earth Day Creek 5k
Sunday, April 26, from 8am-4pm
Runners, on your mark! Get set to run for the Earth during the Earth Day Creek 5k at ForEvergreen Nature Preserve in Analomink, PA on April 26. The Brodhead Watershed Association (BWA) invites runners, dashers and walkers to participate in the scenic 5k along the historic Brodhead Creek. A family-friendly event, children are welcome to compete in the Kids’ Dash. All proceeds will be dedicated to the establishment of the ForEvergreen Nature Preserve.
Stroud Township, BWA and Pocono Heritage Land Trust will stage the Creek 5k as part of the First Annual Earth Day Festival at ForEvergreen Nature Preserve. The Creek 5k will begin with a Kid’s Dash at 9:30am, followed by the main race at 10am, and awards at 10:45am.
Earth Day Festival activities will start at 11:30am and will include activities geared towards nature enthusiasts: fly fishing demonstrations by members of the Brodhead Chapter of Trout Unlimited, a composting workshop by the Waste Authority, a rain barrel presentation by the Monroe County Conservation District, a guided hike by naturalist Don Miller, and an exhibit of Pocono artists’ nature-themed art. Josie Porter Farm will be selling GMO-free, pastured bratwurst and artisan grilled cheese sandwiches to hungry runners/attendees, and a visit by an ice cream truck will delight festival goers young and old.
The ForEvergreen Nature Preserve has been created on a beautiful property that was once home to the Evergreen Golf Course. In 2013, Stroud Township purchased the property and has been transforming it back into a natural area for the enjoyment of runners, anglers, and other outdoor enthusiasts.
The BWA would like to thank event sponsors Pocono Medical Center, Fisher & Son Co. Inc, Brodhead Forest & Stream Association, and Dr. Pat Kennedy and Mike Thomas for their generous support. Event sponsorships are still available – please visit the BWA’s website for sponsorship information.
Runners and walkers interested in participating in the Creek 5K Run/Walk can register online. Registrations on race day will be accepted by cash or check.
The Preserve is located on Cherry Lane Road, in Analomink, about a half mile from the turn off Rte. 191/447. For more information, email info@brodheadwatershed.org, visit www.brodheadwatershed.org or call BWA at 570-839-1120.
